The All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government has dismissed criticism that appointments made by President Muhammadu Buhari were lopsided.
Senate President Bukola Saraki had lamented that most of the top appointees were picked from Lagos and Katsina states.
Speaking after his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saraki had stated that Kwara state was marginalised in terms of appointments by the Buhari administration.
His words: “The Federal Government appointed over 200 persons into juicy offices without allotting any slot to me or (Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu) Dogara.
“Everything went to Katsina, Katsina, Lagos, Lagos. If not for the love I have for Nigeria, we would have scattered everything. They don’t want us in their party. They don’t like us in Kwara.”
But Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information, told newsmen on Sunday that the claim was false.
He said that no fewer than 24 indigenes of Kwara were given federal appointments of which he (Mohammed) only recommended two, while the Senate President recommended 20.
On those complaining of not being given juicy appointment, the minister said that people complaining were not ready to serve and turn things around but eyeing what to steal.
“It is not true that a particular part of the country is being favoured against the other.
“I challenge anybody to go to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and take out the list of appointees under this administration.
“You will be surprised that we have been fair to all,” Mohammed said.
